Take the Red Pill: Health and Human Choice

20 J0000007UTC 2011

I am here today to remind you that you have the power to choose life and health. When it comes to everyday options about food, movement, stress (some of it anyway) and overall be-ing, you are in charge of you. I know that some things just happen to you and evil forces might work against you– but, in large part, 2011 American life is conducive to choosing who you are, what you do and what you put into your system on a daily basis.

“You take the blue pill — the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill — you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”

The blue pill is a life of closing your eyes, sticking your fingers in your ears and not wanting to know how much genetically modified corn or antibiotics are in your slab of beef or how much pesticide is in the pores of your big, red strawberry. The red pill is the rabbit hole of wellness knowledge. It’s a crazy, slippery-slope of somewhat-scary information that dumps out into stronger bones, better-formed cells, cleaner heart, more powerful muscles and a better ability to heal from illness, surgery and pain. It’s the pill that leads to better, truer life.

I challenge you now. I challenge you with not waiting until you are sick to pursue wellness. I challenge you toward the route of prevention, not triage. Do not wait until your arteries are plaque-ing up to keep them nice and clean. Do not wait till your chest hurts to care for your heart. Do not wait till your memory fades to baby your brain. Do not wait till your knees and hands ache to care for your bones and joints. Do not wait till your hormones are crazy before you support them. Do not wait for your cells and tissues to oxidize before you eat anti-oxidant rich foods. Do not wait until you are malnourished before you eat nutrient-dense foods. Do not wait till you are drained before you eat energy-rich foods. You can choose to do all of this now, whatever age you are, whatever condition you are in. Here, now, today.

Go on. Take the red pill and see just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
